Background

Art has always been a hugely important and rewarding part of my life. Growing up in India meant that reading and drawing were my main pastime and laid down a firm foundation for my life with art. It has also given me a wealth of memories to call on.

Art School

I was mainly self taught and to begin with worked in a freelance capacity whilst also following a career working with children. However in early 2000 I became a part time student and attended the Colchester School of Art for four years, specialising in Textile Design. Going to college opened doors to many new ideas and ways of looking at the world. Since leaving college I have been busy researching and creating, using new techniques which have resulted in varied and colourful collections.

Inspirations

My work is inspired by memories, tropical flowers in bright and vivid colours, rows of embroidered saris in the market, a holiday in the Himalayas and the vast mountain ranges, and now my cottage garden overflowing with flowers, herbs and vegetables. Not forgetting the newest member of the family - Daisy Dog who is to be featured on one of the silk scarves in my new collection. Daisy came to live with us in 2009 and is a real joy, usually to be found sitting at my feet in the studio when I am working.

The great outdoors

I do a lot of walking these days thanks to Daisy and have made a habit of taking a camera and sketch book with me, there is so much to see and it is the greatest feeling to turn a memory or a view into a piece of artwork for someone else to enjoy.
